Villa Le Reve, RESIDENTIAL ART HOLIDAYS

Villa Le Reve is by no means a luxury residence, how many of the world’s greatest artists lived luxuriously? Although Henri Matisse was making a comfortable living compared to many artists of his time, he lived here to work and loved the Villa for its high ceilings its exceptional light and airiness, the tropical gardens, palms and the view over the old town of Vence all the way down to the azure Mediterranean Sea. He wrote “this morning strolling in front of my home, seeing all the young girls, women and men riding their bicycles to market I thought I must be in Tahiti...”

There are 8 modestly furnished bedrooms downstairs including Matisse’s former room with a balcony, each room has it’s own shower and washbasin en suite, but the toilets are across the hall. Upstairs you will find three painting South facing studios with the French windows opening out onto the view depicted in ‘Still Life with Pomegranates’, the palm trees and the gardens. South facing bedrooms all look over the garden but note that west and east windows have no notable view, however most time is spent outdoors during workshops, upstairs in the painting studios, at the barbeque terrace or in the garden.

Continental Breakfast is provided and your welcome dinner on arrival. Drinks and snacks are served at the ‘vernissage’ or ‘private view’ party at the end of the holiday to toast all your hard work. For the rest of the catering students have free use of the kitchen, dining room and barbeque area and of course the nearby restaurants.
